Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) is undergoing a metamorphosis to make way for constructing new federally required safety enhancement projects. The MRY Metamorphosis (also known as the Safety Enhancement Program) is a multiphase transformation that includes a replacement passenger terminal and an adjacent aircraft parking apron, which is currently underway with the terminal groundbreaking anticipated in 2025.

Friday, airport officials broke ground on a major new terminal project that’s expected to modernize the travel experience boost safety and support tourism and growth in the region. The upgrade is part of a federally mandated safety project that includes relocating a portion of the taxiway.
